Every evening as it gets dark, a cross now shines from the tower of St Oswald’s Church, projected onto the brickwork for all to see.

Light Night
Saturday 31 October 2026, 5.30pm to 7.30pm, at St Oswald’s
Light Night is a celebration of light over darkness, and this year it’s also the official switch-on of the cross. There’s a free BBQ, glow-in-the-dark tattoos, candy floss, apple bobbing, a lucky dip, face painting, hot chocolate and much, much more. Everyone is welcome.
Where is the Cross?
The idea began with a simple question from a member of the congregation: “Where is the cross?” St Oswald’s is a plain building with no cross anywhere on its exterior. Fixing one to the tower would have meant costly planning permission and ongoing maintenance, so a projected cross was the simpler solution. It uses energy-efficient LEDs, and the church runs on green energy.
Changing with the Seasons
Because the cross is a projection, the image can change with the seasons. Variations on the cross are planned for Christmas and Easter, along with other images for special occasions, so keep an eye on the tower.
At St Oswald’s Church, our faith in Jesus Christ helps us to experience God’s love, joy, peace and hope even when times are uncertain. Our prayer is that when you see the tower lit up, it will remind you that you are known and loved by a God who is love, and that the churches in Coney Hill are praying for you.
If you’re passing in the evening, look up. And you’d be very welcome to come and join us: see our Sunday services or get in touch.
